Nicaragua is a great place for every vegan travelling around Central America because it's most popular national dish - "gallo pinto" - is totally vegan. It's a very nutritive mix of rice and beans with spices, which nicaraguans eat three times a day. Add vegetable salad or fried bananas ("platanos") and that's all. Like in every country of Central America you can find "frijoles refritos" (refried beans) in supermarkets and tortillas in the streets. Ice-cream without milk is not so popular here, try to find shakes without milk ("batido de agua"). Another great nicaraguan drink is "pinolillo" or "piñol", which is made from corn and cacao.
