München has a few explicitly vegan places, even as in general the city doesn't seem to be so vegan-friendly. The local bavarian cuisine is actually exactly the opposite.

Restaurants

The extremely high rent all over the city, and the loss of more alternative culture to populate such locations, makes it really hard to keep a restaurant up, so often it's just a matter of time that it closes - like the fantastic Kopfeck, the Kaede, the Zerwirk, or Fräulein Müller Brotzeitladen..

Vegan and vegetarian restaurants which still exists are:

  • Max Pett [1] at the Sendlinger Tor, so very central. It has a completely vegan menu.

Monday to Saturday open 10.00 to 23.00, it's in the Pettenkoferstraße 8, 80336 München.

  • Tushita Teehaus [2], with a wide selection of great teas, all of them bio. There is always minimum two dishes, one dish of the day and a sandwich, every day different, sometimes even pizza. A lot of cakes, also smoothies. Everything vegan. It's in the Klenzestr. 53, D-80469 München, open Mo-Fr from 09:00 to 20:00 and Saturday 10:00 to 20:00.
  • Princess SchokoBar [3]: awesomely selbstmade pralines, cupcakes, tartes... lots of! Also workshops to learn how to make all that stuff yourself. The whole shop is vegan, lactose-free, bio-organic and fairtrade. It's in the Haimhauserstr. 3a, 80802 München.
  • Pavesi Picnic, in Schwabing, friendly people, all vegan, if possible are the products out of the area, the menu depends on the season, really good indian food like Masala Dosa.
  • Cafe Ignáz [4] in Schwabing, also lists vegetarian dishes on its menu, but has a wide variety of good vegan cakes, cookies, conditory, and also dishes. Its owner has a very familylike way to treat his customers. All in all is it a cute, small cafe with a nice location. There is a happy hour on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 15:00 to 18:00, all main dishes for 6,90 Euro.
  • Royal Veggie Doener [5] at the central station has vegan kebap.
  • Ballabeni next to the Pinakothek der Moderne, is a bit famous and alwas crowded; up to 15 mins you have to wait till you can order. But the ice cream is excellent, self-made and absolutely vegan.
  • There are more Restaurant like Charlie [6] with vietnamese cuisine, and the Roecklplatz [7] where they aim to support "socially disadvantaged" teenager through training and work, are not vegetarian or vegan at all, but have a smaller selection of vegan food, too. Sababa [8] also sells kebab, but has good falafel, but the shop at the famous Viktualienmarkt is always crowded though.

Markets

Among a lot of vegetarian and bio super markets, there is one only-vegan supermarket called Radix [[9]], it also has an online-shop.

Voküs

There are two vegan Voküs (= Volksküchen, "public kitchen", means there is free food on a regular basis) in München.

  • Every Wednesday and Friday at Kafe Marat [10]
  • Every second Thursday of the month at the trailer parc "Stattpark Olga" [11], drinks on donation, often accompanied by a free concert or event.

Dumpsters

There is a nice, really big REWE at Laimer Platz which separates it's trash usually really conveniently into meat, vegetables, and others. The vegetables are mostly on trays still, so still clean. Only some are in the dumpster with the dairy products. So it's very suitable also for strict vegan. On the other side of the street, there is a Vitalia Reformhaus, which has also a Bio-dumpster. Of course there are tons more of that one. For further informations on the dumpsters, check the Munich-article on trashwiki[12]
