Tofu is a a food made from soybeans. It is produced by coagulating soy milk and pressing the resulting curds into blocks. There are many varieties of tofu. Most commonly it is sold fresh, but one can also find fermented, fried or dried tofu. Tofu can be eaten alone with soy or some other kind of sauce, or used as an ingredient in various dishes. Although it takes some practice, tofu can be made at home.

Tofu is a very popular food in East Asia region as it was invented in China centuries ago and spread with Chinese and Buddhist culture to neighboring countries. It can be easily found in almost all shops in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and China. During the most recent decades tofu became popular in North America and Europe.
